Not good for users outside the USA

Support is a problem outside the US. 1-800 numbers don't work and it can be very expensive, often with no resolution. Email responses from support are slow (days) or not at all.
My bank contacted me when someone tried to pass a $1 international transaction on my credit card a typical fraud. I said I had no knowledge of the transaction so they blocked my account and issued me a new card. It was Yahoo processing a fake transaction to satisfy themselves that my cards new expiry date was correct! By doing so they caused my credit card account to be blocked!

Moderately ok for the $$$

Since I've used Yahoo for years I figured why not give them a try with web hosting for my web shop. Relatively easy sign up with your Yahoo ID and after that everything was rolling.
The shopping cart system they provide is simple to add products to and manage. They are however light with other addons.
The site has been stable and pages load up faily quickly. My 2 cents...

Sure, they have a fast redundant network, but they should offer more scripting options. Support can also take a little while. However, for a new site that doesn't require much extra options, they are pretty decent.

Great Host for Basic Sites

Yahoo is fast, their control panels are good, up time is great, service is friendly are all the positive traits of this host. On the downside, you do not have access to critical files like .htaccess, their version of php was not the most current, and other scripts were non-existent. We used them for 2 years, and as our site became more advanced this host proved inadequate. Great host for basic site, for more -you will need more.

As you might guess, yahoo offers not so advanced hosting, which for some is a good thing. The control panel is easy to use and you don't have to worry about getting to mixed up with things. I've used more advanced hosts before so I know what I'm talking about. For novices and small simple sites, they aren't too bad.

I have used Ulta for years and they have done a fine job of serving static content. I also have a Wordpress blog and they are running PHP version 4.3.11 and MySQL version 4.1.14 which is too old, and a security issue, to keep up with the current version and current plugins. They also do not give you full access to the file system to create hard or soft links. Additionally you do not have access to advanced web server functionality for URL redirection, etc. Unless you will be serving static content I recommend a different host.

Let me start by saying that I'm by no means a web hosting expert. I have used a few in the past however and can say that if you are new at the web hosting thing, Ultahosting deserves a second look. The control panel is easy to use and they have a very reliable (fast) network.
